The colony of Rhode Island was mostly made up of dissenters from the Massachusetts Bay Colony because Rhode Island welcomed all people regardless of their background. People were more individual because of how accepting the colony was. It was widely regarded as a sewer because it was a dumping ground for non-believers, heretics, and dissenters (1).
