North and South Carolina have many rivers that allow for ample trade and transportation. From those rivers and the ocean, they have many minerals in the soil. This creates fertile soil that is good for growing crops in the warm, moist climate. The lengthened growing seasons also allow for many cash crops to be grown. This is a common characteristic in the Southern colonies (13).
