The Massachusetts Bay Colony had many dense forests with wood for lumber. It also had wide access to many harbors in the Atlantic with lots of plankton which made fish, lobsters, and clams prevalent. There was a cool climate similar to today with short summers and long, cool winters that caused the colonists to suffer because they were not used to the conditions and hadn't prepared. Additionally, there was rocky soil. All of these factors limited farming but allowed for the industrial economy described next (1).
